Ultrasound

It's a baby girl!!! Healthy and normal. Well, normal for Kim and Nick.

Graduation for me!!!!

It's official. I am graduated!!!! After my last final in the testing centre, Nick brought me a slice of red velvet cake from CPK and put it on the window sill at BYU that everyone puts things on. (If you've gone there than you can understand that) So when that diploma comes it will be framed and on the wall! (Should come in 10 days!!) So happy and so excited to be done. Nick took me out for dinner and then we went to Barnes and Noble and looked for baby names. Such a great night!

Happy Birthday Nick!!

I love this man! He turned 28 today- and we started the day off with breakfast in bed on the Special Day Red plate. He chose waffles, of course, then we opened presents. I purchased him a new computer since he wanted one for grad school and there was great sale, AND I could join forces with Santa for that one :) But he loved it!!
Off to work for me, but he went to play Pickle Ball with his friends and my brother. Then we headed off to Mexican food for dinner and a movie called 127 hours. (It's about the rock climbing guy that has to cut off his arm) It was really good. After the movie we came home, had cake and ice cream and off to bed. Oh, and to top off his birthday- my friend Joe asked us to watch his dog for the holidays and I said yes. Joe dropped off his dog, London, that morning so Nick got to play with a puppy all day! And we all know how much he loves dogs
Happy birthday Nick! You are one amazing man-

Street Fighter Friend

Daniel on the right. His wife Rena in the black sweatshirt with black hair outside.
Our friends Rena and Daniel live below us. Daniel, for a hobby of his, likes to cage fight. He invited us to his very first match. Since Nick and I have never been to a cage fighting match before we decided to go and support our friend. He was fighting a BYU Rugby player for his first match that literally looked like a bear!! He was huge- but Daniel did really well! He is a better fighter when he is standing, and the other guy was a better fighter when they were wrestling. Since Daniel is deaf all his deaf friends came and supported him as well. Rena was translating for him and everyone was cheering him on in sign. Since I know sign, it was really fun to be part of it. You can tell he and Rena have some great, supportive friends!

Life Lately

Nick and my life has been crazy the last couple of days. I mean crazy. If there was a book about our life, it would be made into a movie, and then people would be like, we didn't like the movie because it was so unrealistic. That is how crazy. So to start it off, this week was the last week of classes. Meaning, Nick had his Neuro Anatomy test (terribly hard), I had my Philosophies of Family (also hard), THEN I had a 130 page design catalogue due, an 11 assignment (33 pgs) design of the home portfolio due, plus two papers on theories with Philosophies of Family, other quizzes and final classes. That has been school this week. And I graduate this next week to top it off!
AND THEN: Wednesday Nick was hit by a car!!! He called me and I heard the police in the background. Shaking I drove to the site. Nick was sitting in the police car. An ambulance had come and I drove him over to the emergency room. He was x-rayed and tested for neurological damage. And LITERALLY he was watched over! All he has is some interior bruising and scrapes on his face, hands, and arm. His glasses broke, his jacket tore, and his backpack ripped, and the scooter looks like a crumpled piece of paper. But he is doing okay. (such a tough husband I have) So now he is tending to his sore knee and bruised head, but he is such a trooper. After spending the whole day at the hospital we came home and I had to crunch out some of my homework listed above.
The next day we drove up to the OB to find out the sex of our baby. (a later post on that) Baby is healthy and developing properly. But after that we were driving home back to school when his uncle called him and said that his grandpa was really ill and wouldn't live much longer. So we ran to school to turn in some projects, talk to teachers, and headed up to Salt Lake. He passed away during that time. When we got to Salt Lake the family was there and starting to talk about the funeral. Funerals are always sad, but it was so nice to be there and surrounded by family and feel/see the love they have for one another. Having loved ones around, I feel, always makes it a little easier. So we spent a couple hours there. Drove home and I immediately had to finish some home work that was due immediately for credit! So I was on the computer for a couple hours. AND THEN Nick runs into the office and tells me to open his email. There, on his email, was his first letter from a grad school he applied to. Vanderbilt Univeristy in TN. So Nick will be flying out there in January for an interview.
Here we are, Friday. His parents are flying into town. We have finals next week(!!!), and Christmas preparation and also, next Friday is my loving, wonderful, husband's 28th Birthday-and Saturday is the funeral.
Does that not sound like an unrealistic movie or what?! What I have come away from this feeling is apprechaition that Nick is okay (most important to me), that the baby is healthy (also very important), that school is finishing for me (Yeah I'm graduating!), and that Nick's family is all going to be there for his wonderful grandma to love and support her through this difficult time, and that I have a job that is so accomodating to emergencies that happen in my life. What a huge blessing!
This is a long post. I'm sure most of you won't even read this all the way to the end, because you have busy lives, especially this time of year- But just be grateful for family and love we all have!

Turkey Day

Dalin and Aiden

The Edwards Family
For Thanksgiving this year Nick and I headed to Las Vegas to spend it with his family. The meal was delicious and when smell-o-vision comes along, I'll have to show you how great a cook his sister Megan is! She loves home cooking and rich foods, so I'm never one to turn down her tasty meals! Super tender turkey and wonderful meal-
We even had the chance to play the colour code book/quiz. I, as you might have guessed, am a red-yellow. Nick was suprising as a yellow-white. It was really fun.
Then Nick and his brother did a night of shopping (puchased me a great door buster artificial tree!!! woowho)while I slept and helped my sister move into her new house! (so happy for her) and we snapped some shots of Nick's brother's family. They are a hoot to hang out with and I feel they are growing up so fast and I've barely been a member of the family!! I didn't take any pictures of Thanksgiving day, but here are some fun shots of the Edwards family.

I'm Loving it

Yesterday I was hungry, so I drove past a McDonalds and decided that my favourite little MickyD's treat would be a great fit. So I bought some french fries since they are so delicious to me! (not sure why, but I can't find anything better) As I was eating the hot fries my thoughts started to wander. They went in this order:

Yum. These are so good! I'm glad I got them hot
Why does such a tasty treat come from this place?
I hate what McDonald's represents in society. Why are they like that?
They were not always a mega fast food chain. They started off as a neighborhood favourite
I bet the first Mr. Ronald, when flipping burgers back at the car hop wouldn't even like his food or company nowadays.
Why do I like it again?
Oh yeah, the fries are yummy!

Welcome to the mind of Kim

Baby Update

So I'm officially 14 weeks and 3 days. I am feeling much better and I'm starting to get my energy back. Still not quite showing, but I know that won't last much longer. My wonderful sisters brought up all their past maternity clothes, and baby car seat so I am a couple steps closer to being preparing for April to come. We went to the doctors the last week and this is a picture of our ultrasound. It was so cute because while the technician was trying to take pictures, this little jelly bean wouldn't hold still!! He/she kept jumping and turning and putting on a show. I knew it was our baby after seeing that :) December 9th we get to find out the sex of the baby so put in your guesses! We are really excited.

Ed Morgan Jr.

Two weeks ago my grandfather passed away from pancreatic cancer. The doctor said his heart was healthy as can be, but the rest of his organs were failing due to his cancer. Over this time I have been thinking of what a fun, hardworking, man he was and how I will miss him. I think I got some of my perfectionism from him and definatley my love for animals! He served in WWII as a paratrooper and this is a picture of him during war that we have in my dad's book, Saints at War. I am really glad that my brothers and I went up there not too long ago and go to see him and play dominoes. He seemed happy while we were there. The funeral was beautiful and full of people who really loved him as much as I do.

My husband gets excited when...

Whenever I say I am going grocery shopping at Costco. Why is that? It's the only time he actually wants to go grocery shopping with me. He is so funny!

Baby Heart

Well I guess it's officially time I can announce that Nick and I are pregnant. Well, I'm actually the pregnant one, but Nick is the support. Today we had our 12 week visit and immediately when they put the little monitor to my belly we heard the heart beat. It was so surreal. Like, that sound was coming from inside me. So strange. I've been doing all sorts of reserach so I felt prepared, but it still was a crazy feeling/sound.
I told the doctor that I've lost 10 lbs and couldn't keep a prenatal vitamin in me, she gave me some sample ones to try and told me I have to gain weight by my next visit. So I might need some dirt cake :) haha We are pretty happy and don't care if it's a boy or girl. Just so excited that I have 2 awesome sisters who are so happy to help us out with giving us their done with baby things! How great is that?! I hope the baby is healthy and can't wait to meet him or her!
This is what a fetus looks like at 12 weeks. It's the size of a lime!

Grandparents Morgan

Over Labour Day weekend my brothers and I drove up to Lewiston, Idaho to visit my Grandparents Morgan. We haven't been there is awhile so it meant a lot to us to have this time to do such a trip. We drove up to Moscow (where they use to live) and drove around memory spots there, then we went out to dinner for all the September birthdays we have in our family. Then the next day was church and a family BBQ for my cousin's daughter's (Avery) birthday. We had such a great time and I hope we can make it up there more often!

Nick's Skateboarding Video

One of Nick's hobbies is skateboarding and when he has spare time (very rarely with school) he likes to spend it with his friends skating. They started filming, then his friend John made a video and gave everyone a copy of it. Here is Nick's little part in the video for you all to see :)

Pura Vida, Costa Rica!

Well it's officially over. We have conquered Costa Rica and I will say, it was a way fun adventure! Beautiful place, perfect weather, tasty food, and great people. We stayed in the town of Tamarindo and it only rained 2 days, which is GREAT for the rainy season so we were very happy about that. I would recommend Costa Rica to anyone- it was that much fun! (Many pictures below...just so you know, but not as nearly many pictures as we have took)

The plane ride there I got bumped to first class, so Nick let me take it. SO on the plane ride home I also got bumped to first class and I gave it to Nick. He was so excited! One of the first things he said to me once we got off was, "They gave me steak!"
We stayed in San Jose the first night then rented a car and drove 4.5 hours to Tamarindo. It was a very windy road but really pretty. It was nice to see the countryside of Costa Rica.
This is where we stayed. It was called Casabambora (www.vrbo.com) and Joey, the owner, was so nice and helpful with all our questions and help we needed. He really keeps this place in tip top condition.
Nick had me longboard surf. I haven't done this since living in San Diego so it was really fun. Yeah, my waves weren't that big, but I still got up and surfed all the way in several times.
These little ants were everywhere. Just minding their own business, walking their own path, and carrying leaves to their home. It was neat to see.
We got a flat tire from all the pot holes and terrible roads that Tamarindo had. So Nick and I changed the tire. Well Nick changed it, I just winded the bolts off and on.
One day Nick took a hour long boat ride to go surf Witch's Rock and Ollie's Point. They are famous surf spots in video's and Endless Summer. He got baby jellyfish stings all over his body from the warm water! We had to rub vinegar on his body to keep them from itching. Surfer's term for this: Sea Lice.
The sunsets there were immaculate!
The beaches there were warm and beautiful!
Nick is out there in the white shirt. He had some really fun surfing days and I had great times on the beach tanning. Such a relaxing vacation!
We took a Catamaran (spelling?) ride around this island to go snorkeling on the other side. Then it started pouring down rain! The waves were huge and Nick got a little seasick, but the cool part was....
We saw a school of Humpback whales!! They were jumping, and flipping their fins, and smashing their tails in the air. It was so hard to take pictures and due to the rain, I only brought my Canon Powershot, so I couldn't zoom in as close as I wanted to.
They also threw in fishing lines and we caught a Jack fish. I am not sure what that is, but it was a big fish that they let go back into the water. Apparently they taste bad.
Then we went horseback riding in the valley. It was funny because my horse didn't really like Nick's horse and any time Nick's horse tried to pass, my horse would start trotting. We got a kick out of it. But the view up there was amazing! You could see all the way to the ocean.
Yeah, the helmet they had us wear gave my hat a funny shape.
During horseback riding and ziplining we saw monkeys! They were just as curious in us as we were in them. Just staring. There was a whole family in the trees at this point so we took some pictures.
Here is Nick ziplining. IT WAS SO FUN! I could have sang a whole song for how long some of these lines were. You could see the whole canopy- and birds were flying right by you! Pretty cool experience.
Another monkey we saw.
Nick was trying to find a surf spot and got us mini-lost. This road let us to this river, then the road continued on the other side up stream a ways! Do we go or not?
These are Joey, the land lord's, dogs. They were so nice and just followed us everywhere when we were at home. This night we were watching the sunset and they wanted to watch it with us.
This is a cool surf shop and a photo-op came to mind...

And here we are at the airport headed back to the U.S. of A. Such a great time and a great trip! I am so glad we had the opportunity to go and it was a well deserved vacation for both of us. We made friends from Quebec and went on a double date one night, Nick's surfboard smacked his chin and split it (so he superglued it) and we made sure we relaxed everyday! Now back to real life but with good memories!

Costa Rica, HERE WE COME!!

So I haven't posted in awhile, so that is why I got all these entries on today. I wanted to get them done before we left on our trip and boy are we excited! Swimsuit, check, sunblock, check, camera, check, passports, check. We are all ready. Well, almost- we still have to do laundry and pack. So off we go and I'll definately put some of the best pictures up when we get back.

Bon Apetite

I am registered for a cooking class right now. I have not really enjoyed it as the recipe's are so simple and I haven't found anything challenging as of yet. So the first section of the course is over. I had to make several meals, nutrition charts, brand comparisons, etc.. Here are a couple the things I made. (I thought I had to send in pictures to prove I made them, but I was wrong)
Banana bread and muffins
Chocolate Mousse

Bless Your Little Fur

Max Wright
1992-2010
When I was young my best friend's cat had kittens. My parents let me have one, so after they gave away all the other cats, my little Max was for me. I played with him every day, and I even put him in doll clothes. So he has gotten old and very tired looking. His hips were going out, and he was vomiting all his food. I didn't want him to suffer anymore. One day my parents said it's time to put him down. The next day I made an appointment. I knew he was hurting, but it still felt like I was killing him. I think the hardest part was that I have known him for 18 years! He's seen everything in my life. But now I know he is happy.

So rest in peace my little feline friend. I know I'll miss you.

Maple Mash

Well Canada Day was July 1 and my sister wanted to throw a Canada Day party, but she decided to have it a little further away from July 4th and also some Canadian friends were coming down, so July 30 was the day. We sent out an invite to all the local Canadians (From B.C only, duh) and had a great time eating BBQ, swimming, playing games, and catching up. I didn't know very many people as they were more in my sisters age range, but I still had a nice time talking and remembering all the tasty Canada things.
